Braddon Read-Along Update: November

by Janine Hatter on November 28, 2017

Hi #MEBAread participants,

This month, we’re reading Aurora Floyd chapters 32-34. We’ve got two months of reading left in the read-along, and the mystery at the heart of this sensation novel is almost entirely cleared up.

In Chapter 32, “On the Watch,” Aurora and Mellish return home after getting (legitimately) married. Talbot is worried things aren’t over, but the couple are optimistic that all of the trouble is behind them. It isn’t.

In Chapter 33, “Captain Prodder Goes Back to Doncaster,” Aurora’s uncle returns to the scene of the crime and behaves suspiciously, eavesdropping and then getting into a fight with “Softy” Hargreaves.

In Chapter 34, “Discovery of the Weapon with which James Conyers Had Been Slain,” the murder weapon is found in the pond on Mellish’s property, a detective shows up, and things look bleak for two prime suspects: Aurora and “Softy.”

Instead of posing questions this month, I’m leaving things open for a free discussion. I’m also asking participants to post pictures of their copies of the novel and/or their annotations.
